Comment on The EU’s global action in support of universal health coverage in the time of the pandemic and beyond in The Lancet Regional Health – Europe, Volume 14, March 2022, 100319, written by Christian Franz, Laslo Jaeger, Urška Erklavec, Göran Tomson, Ilona Kickbusch, Vesna Kerstin Petrič and Pia Vračko.
The comment includes an action list for the European Union with three major directions in a New Global Health Strategy:
- The EU should work towards a new global health strategy, as a new pillar of the European Health Union, that recognizes the global nature of many health threats.
- The EU should build upon its actions as Team Europe, establishing a permanent “Global Health Team Europe” based in key policy venues that supports the Commission and Member States in speaking with one voice in global health.
- The EU should emphasize knowledge exchange between health systems. The SEEHN Network (Southeastern European Health Network) is an example of such strategic partnership.
